YIROKA Wireless Doorbell Camera Review

The smart doorbell industry has exploded over the last few years, with brands like Ring taking the lead and becoming more dominant than others. This has inevitably led to several smaller brands now popping up, offering similar products at a fraction of the price.

That’s where Yiroka comes in. Their wireless doorbell camera aims to provide most, if not all of the aspects and features we all expect from doorbell cameras these days, which includes things like live camera feeds, notifications, and the ability to talk to someone on your doorstep.

It’s safe to say they’ve largely succeeded, as the Yiroka Wireless Doorbell Camera may very well be one of the best values you’ll find with these devices.

About The Product

The first thing you’ll notice when taking the doorbell out of the box is its style and size, which is not all that different from a Ring doorbell. The Yiroka is basically half the size of an iPhone 6, and has a modern aesthetic that blends in well with most any porch.

Installation is fairly simple, and you have a choice between using the provided screws, or the included tape for an even quicker installation. The screws option is recommended, but the tape choice is certainly alluring due to its simplicity. I suppose if you choose the screws, recharging the doorbell via USB could be done with an extension cord so you don’t have to take it off.

Once you have the doorbell installed, you’ll then download the doorbell’s app, which is available for both Android and iOS. The app is easy to use, and totally self-explanatory. You don’t have to register or create a login, so you’ll be up and running within minutes.

YIROKA Doorbell Camera Review

As for functions, you have all the essentials with the Yiroka. The camera offers a wide view, with plenty of detail. When using the app, you can access a live stream from the doorbell’s camera, and either record video, or snap screenshots while the video stream is running. The doorbell does not use the cloud for files, so you’ll save them right to your phone, or on the included 32GB memory card.

Video and camera shots are offered in HD, with a full 166 degrees of total vision within the field, capturing a large range that typically spans your entire porch, and most of the street or areas off in the distance with perfect clarity.

There’s also a surprisingly good night mode in black and white, which still manages to pick up lots of detail. Both modes can use motion detection, which will send a push notification to your phone when it senses motion, giving you the option to view or record what’s going on, or talk to whoever is on your doorstep via the two-way built-in speaker.

The doorbell also comes with a chime you can install in your house, and it’s powered by plug-in, so you can simply plug it into the outlet of your choice. The doorbell will trigger the chime when rung, and you can also set the chime to a nightlight mode that activates when it senses motion. Kind of random, but still an appreciated feature nonetheless.

If you’re worried about the doorbell being susceptible to the elements, don’t be. The Yiroka has an IP55 waterproof and dustproof rating, and will work perfectly in freezing weather. It holds up to a large amount of precipitation without any ill effects, or loss of vision on the camera lens.

Should anyone try to remove the SD card, an alarm will automatically sound, which can be toggled on and off via the app for the times when you need to access it. The doorbells uses a rechargeable lithium battery that holds its charge for a long period — although probably not near the 5-6 months the product listing claims on Amazon.

What We Like

YIROKA Doorbell Camera Light and Dark

The biggest allure to the Yiroka for many is probably the low price. FOr well under $100, you can get a doorbell camera that performs on the same level as all the bigger and more established brands, which is a bit surprising.

Installation is very fast, and the mobile app is very intuitive and easy to figure out from the start. Push notifications are simple, and you have a fair amount of customization with the settings.

The camera quality is very good, and offers clear images and video without that cheap pixelated feel that cheaper doorbells tend to offer. The included memory card has plenty of storage, and is not hard to access.

The bonus chime/nightlight is a nice inclusion, and the plug-in aspect totally removes the need for any recharging or battery changes, which is always a good thing.

What Could Be Better

There are honestly few complaints with this doorbell. If anything, there is a big discrepancy between the medium and high settings on the motion detection mode. For instance, setting it to medium may miss some quick or somewhat distant motions near the doorbell, but if you set it to high, it will often go off when your neighbor drives by your curb.

Kind of a good problem to have in some ways, but I could see why some would be a little annoyed.

Buying Advice

YIROKA Doorbell Camera Battery

I’ll assume more people have an extension cord in their home, but if not you should get one. This will let you recharge the doorbell without having to remove it from your door frame. You can just run the cord out, plug in your USB charger, and be all set after about 12 hours.

The Verdict

The Yiroka Wireless Doorbell Camera is the perfect choice for anyone looking for an affordable, yet still effective doorbell camera for their home. It works just as well as models that cost twice as much, and offers impressive video and image quality, which is really what matters in the end anyway.
